Community Guidelines
Last updated: March 23, 2026
Dormeet is built for real college students to meet roommates, make friends, and trade on campus. These guidelines keep it authentic, safe, and respectful. They apply everywhere on Dormeet — your profile, messages, the marketplace, and subleases — and are part of our Terms of Service.
1. Be real
- Use your real name, your own recent photos, and accurate profile details.
- Don’t impersonate anyone or misrepresent your age, school, or identity.
- One person, one account. No bots, no fake or duplicate profiles.
- Only upload photos you have the right to use, and never post photos of other people without their consent.
2. Be respectful
Treat everyone the way you’d want to be treated in your dorm hallway. The following are not allowed:
- Harassment, bullying, threats, or intimidation of any kind.
- Hate speech or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected trait.
- Unsolicited sexual advances, or continuing to message someone after they’ve stopped responding or blocked you.
- Sharing or threatening to share someone else’s private information or photos.
3. Keep it clean
- No sexually explicit, pornographic, or nude content.
- No graphic violence, gore, or content that promotes self-harm.
- No content promoting illegal activity, including the sale of drugs, alcohol to minors, weapons, or stolen goods.
- No spam, scams, phishing, or off-topic commercial solicitation.
4. Trade honestly on the marketplace
The marketplace is student-to-student. Dormeet is not a party to any sale and does not process payments — so honesty matters.
- List only items you actually own and are allowed to sell.
- Describe the item and its condition accurately, with real photos.
- Don’t post prohibited items (weapons, drugs, alcohol to minors, counterfeit or stolen goods, or anything illegal).
- Meet in a public place on campus, inspect items before you pay, and trust your instincts.
- Report listings that look like scams or misrepresent what’s being sold.
5. Stay safe
Dormeet connects you with other students, but we don’t run background checks and can’t guarantee anyone’s identity or intentions. Look out for yourself:
- Meet new people and complete trades in public, well-lit places on campus.
- Tell a friend where you’re going and consider bringing someone along.
- Never send money, deposits, or gift cards to someone you haven’t met.
- Don’t share sensitive information (Social Security numbers, bank details, passwords) with anyone.
- If someone makes you uncomfortable, block and report them.
6. Report and block
Every profile, chat, and listing can be reported, and you can block anyone at any time. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior: when you report something, we review it and, where confirmed, remove the content and may suspend or permanently ban the responsible user — typically within 24 hours. If someone is in immediate danger, always contact local emergency services or campus safety first.
7. What happens if you break the rules
Depending on the severity, we may remove content, issue a warning, restrict features, or suspend or permanently ban an account — at our discretion and without prior notice. Serious violations (threats, exploitation of minors, or illegal activity) may be reported to your university or law enforcement. See our Terms of Service for the full policy.
8. Questions or concerns
